The Rocky Mountain Rage are in their second season in the Central Hockey League, a "AA" level of minor league professional hockey featuring former NCAA Division I and Canadian Major Junior players. Several players on each club usually also have American Hockey League experience and been drafted by teams in the NHL.
The Rage reside in the CHL's Northwest Division along with the Oklahoma City Blazers, Tulsa Oilers, Wichita Thunder, and their chief rival, the Colorado Eagles. The league's 17 teams play a 64-game regular season schedule before the top five from each conference qualify for the post-season and the right to compete for the Ray Miron President's Cup.
The Rage play their home games at the $45 million Broomfield Event Center. The arena opened in 2006 on the south side of the Boulder Turnpike at Wadsworth Parkway and 120th Ave. and holds 5,891 fans for hockey. On January 16, 2008, the Rage and Broomfield Event Center will host the 2008 CHL All-Star Game featuring the most skilled and talented players from across the league.
Broomfield Event Center is also home to the Denver Nuggets' NBA Development League affiliate, the Colorado 14ers, and hosts concerts, trade shows, and other sporting events. The BEC anchors Arista, a 215-acre, multi-use development highlighted by a retail pedestrian mall featuring a boutique hotel, office space, and residential units. |
